Novel Bookcamp’s Statement on AI usage
As an organization, Novel Bookcamp believes in the joy, the power, and the ability of writers to create stories that will move readers and keep them engaged. We’re also aware that generative text tools—commonly called AI—exist. Many word-processing programs now have them built in for spell check, formatting, etc., and using these tools is almost unavoidable.
However, we strongly advise against manuscript submissions to Bookcamp where AI tools were used for more involved writing help — anything from developing a character to outright writing. AI tools may offer quick solutions to writing problems, but they do it on the basis of millions of pages written by humans first. We believe in your imagination and your ability to solve your writing problems either on your own or with trusted writer friends. Or come to Bookcamp and ask your new writing friends for help, fully human-created, no machines needed. The result will be a manuscript that is uniquely, wholly yours, which is what the best storytelling inherently celebrates: the human experience.
