Hello, everyone!
My name is Ekta Garg, and I’m thrilled to join the board of directors for Bookcamp. Here’s a little about me. :>
Following the completion of my MSJ in magazine publishing from Northwestern University, my career in niche publishing started in 2005 when I became the editor for all special projects out of Community Newspapers, Inc., (now Pamplin Media Group) in Portland, Oregon. Since then I’ve written and edited about everything from healthcare to home improvement to Hindi films. In 2010, I started The Write Edge (http://thewriteedge.wordpress.com) where I share my corner of the writing/editing/publishing world. I also use it to connect to my extension blogs of original short writing and book reviews.
I began reviewing books professionally in 2011 and have been a long-time reviewer for Bookpleasures.com. This means I get to stay up way too late reading advanced reviewer copies by experienced and upcoming authors alike. A judge for the Florida Writers’ Association’s annual Royal Palm Literary Awards and a guest judge for the Saturday Writers chapter of the Missouri Writers Guild, I also conduct writing workshops in my local community for the Champaign Public Library and also in collaboration with The Literary, Champaign’s newest indie bookstore. My book podcast, Biblio Breakdown, https://ektargarg.com/biblio-breakdown-the-writing-podcast/ lets me talk about great books and how writers can emulate them in their own work.
My first book, The Truth About Elves, won the 2023 Next Generation Indie Book Awards for Best Novella and is a holiday story for grownups about what it’s like to work part-time for Santa as an elf. My second book, In the Heart of the Linden Wood, is an original fairy tale for grownups about what comes after “happily ever after” and won the 2024 Kindle Book Awards for best cover. Both were published by Atmosphere Press and are available everywhere in paperback, ebook, and audiobook form.
When not writing and editing, you can find me dancing in the kitchen while making dinner, keeping up with all the latest Bollywood gossip, and doing my best to tamp down my urge to reorganize everything in sight. I live with my family in Central Illinois as the wife to a wonderful physician and the mom to two teenagers who astound me on a regular basis.
