Hi! I’m Michael T. Braun, and I’m proud to be the owner and editor-in-chief of Orange Hat Publishing and our imprint Ten16 Press. I have a BA in English literature and an MA and PhD in communication science, all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to purchasing Orange Hat from founder Shannon Ishizaki, I worked in academic research and program evaluation at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and at the Medical College of Wisconsin. In addition to Orange Hat, I’m also an adjunct assistant professor at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, teaching writing.
I am excited to serve on the Novel Bookcamp board to offer guidance from the publishing world. My background in academic research and its associated publication expectations carry over into how I run Orange Hat. In academic publishing, editors must respond to every submission, provide feedback, and justify their decisions. Orange Hat takes the same approach. We are committed to transparency in our publishing and business decisions, and I look forward to sharing these details with authors. I’m also a would-be author, with a lot of projects started but few finished! I’m excited to join the Novel Bookcamp board because I know how hard it is to write a book. I look forward to learning from authors about how to get my creative projects wrapped up and into the world!
