What guided your decision to attend Novel-In-Progress Bookcamp?

I had the privilege of and afternoon visit to the 2022 bookcamp and saw firsthand the value of attending. Additionally, several members of the writer’s group I participate in had attended in the past and shared their positive experiences.

Did anything about your writing change after attending?

My understanding on leveraging an editor to improve the final manuscript changed. The input from the other participants and the teaching authors improved my plotting and book/chapter structure.

What were the main take-away values you took from camp?

The insight into the publishing environment, traditional and self-publishing, is invaluable. Guidance from agents and published authors was a unique opportunity, especially having an entire week to engage and discuss different aspects of the whole author experience.

How did your publications come about?

In 2016 the story concept came to me. The subsequent novels evolved from that beginning. Now they are a three-book series with a prequel. (four books total)

Talk about your book and publishing experience.

Eternity’s Rising is the prequel to the Karl Lark Chronicles series. A contemporary fiction, sci-fi thriller and urban fantasy horror experience. Self-publishing is a journey requiring a constellation of supporting contributors in cover art, editing, and typesetting. This is then followed by the marketing efforts. Mastering all this takes time but is satisfying in the end.

Would you recommend Bookcamp to other writers?

Absolutely, for both new and experienced authors and anyone in between. In addition to the technical guidance on writing, the Bookcamp is a fantastic opportunity to network, develop a better understanding of the publishing industry, and how book marketing works.
